Jojo (not real name) is a twenty five year old professional who lives and works in the federal capital territory.
She is the third child in a family of five children, three girls and two boys. Her family is a very close knit one, she enjoys a very close relationship with her siblings and life couldn’t be better for them all.
Jojo’s parents are not the type to bother their children about getting married or moving out of the house and so Jojo and all her siblings still live in their parents’ home; it is a big house and they are all quite comfortable. Her two older siblings have very good jobs as well and her two younger ones are both in the University; it is just one big happy family.
Jojo had never thought anything wrong about her family arrangement, in truth; she always wondered how she would cope a day without her family and away from her happy home when she eventually got married.
Her parents still provided all the basics for the family and all that Jojo and her siblings did was to buy things for themselves and also help people who genuinely needed assistance.
Jojo’s parents are more than happy to still have all their children living with them and they do all that they can to keep them very comfortable.
Recently, Jojo had a minor altercation with her friend; her friend said a lot of things to her but one thing that worries Jojo out of everything her friend said to her is the fact that she called her “cursed”.
Jojo’s friend told her that she is under a generational curse together with all her siblings; stating that it was abnormal for her and her older siblings to be without spouses and also still live with their parents.
Ever since the misunderstanding with her friend, Jojo has been worried, she hates to admit it, but she believes her friend; she goes to church and prays more these days (thanks to her friend’s bad mouth).
Following the instructions given to her in church, Jojo has commenced plans to move out of her parents’ home. Her parents, particularly her mother have been so sad ever since she told them that she would be moving to her own apartment, they have tried to find out from her the reason for her sudden decision to no avail.
Jojo knows that her parents would be heartbroken if they found out the reason behind her decision, but she believes that she should make a move towards changing certain things in her life.
As for me, I do not believe in such but I believe in praying a lot and trusting God to work things out.
Jojo’s mind is made up but she admits that somewhere in her heart she feels that she is making a mistake capable of destroying her relationship with her family; yet, she no longer feels comfortable around her parents, she feels that both parents know something really deep and spooky but keeping same from them.
This is a very sensitive issue and I tried to exercise some caution in giving my advice. Jojo definitely needs to have a conversation with her mother if she feels this strongly about what her friend said to her.
Though I see her behaviour as an unnecessary sensitive reaction to an exchange of words with an uncouth girl who was just blabbing.
My question is, do ancestral curses really exist?

Sins of the fathers/mothers follows generations.
ReplyDeleteOf course ancestral curses still hold water.
Living wt patents at an old age 4 me isn't a curse but a blessing earned by d patents by obeying d 4th commandment during their time.
Rather d parents hav d task of tasking God 2 reciprocate dia blessings 2 dia children.
Blessed b d Will of God now & 4eva thru Jesus Christ. Ameeeeeeeeen
Akuko! Is she that gullible? Believing a girl that is obviously jealous of her.
ReplyDeleteWell ancestral course do exist but here I think Jojo is over reacting. In all these is there no man in her life or that of her sibling. She is out of school and working so not getting married yet is not a course rather let her wait for the write time. Moving out of the family house is no solution to her problem rather let her pray Hod will here her.
ReplyDelete* God will hear her
ReplyDeleteThere is such a thing as ancestral curse but in this case,I believe her friend is just envious of her. I thibk it is very ridiculous of her to move out based on that and that she is making a huge mistake. I would advise her to pray, trust God to lead her and stay put in her parents house until she is moving out for the right reasons.Oh and she needs to lose the friend.
ReplyDeleteYes inheritance curse do exist and it is only prayer that cast it away from such who be family.
ReplyDeleteThe speed with which Jojo accepted her friend's insinuations and proceeded to emark on moving out of the family house only shows that she already is tired of staying at home together with her family. The curse issue only helped her take a decision.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, ancestral curses do exist but in this case it's her akpors friend that has initiated the curse. Jojo should grow up, that is if she hasn't already.
Moving out does not solve the problem, we have a culture but with this generation things have taken a different turn. I remember when in the past it was unheard of that a single girl has a car or that she lives alone.people will think the worst, but now it is a norm, so for Jojo she can move or live with her parents. Her friend should feel sorry for calling her cursed. Just jealousy there are haters around. She should not let her friends bad mouth push her into a decision she will regret, why waist money on rent when she has a comfortable roof over her head, mtchew. Jojo should use her sense. That's my thought on this.keep Jojo in prayers.
ReplyDeleteWhy waste money.
ReplyDeleteI lived with ma parents.... Working and staying with them till i got married noting wrong with it
