Since I had a conversation with this ardent Lilea’s blog reader, I am still trying to wrap my head around this very awkward and unbelievable love story.
Joanne is an extremely beautiful lady and from a most distinguished home, she got the best Western education and has attained an enviable status in the society. She has everything going for her, good looks, a good job, good investments and a very good husband.
Joanne met her handsome husband, Chux about twenty five years ago; they were both very young high school leavers and attended the same extra morals lessons back in the days. Chux did not do very well in his prior external examinations and so he was actually attending the lessons in preparation for a second attempt at the West African Examinations.
Unlike Joanne, Chux had a very difficult upbringing, he experienced hard times, his father was a non academic staff in a University, and he was at the mercy of uncles throughout his primary and secondary education. He was out of school for two years while in the secondary school because his parents could not afford to pay the school fees of all their children then, none of his uncles would help and so Chux opted to work for a while so support his family.
He was a good five years older than Joanne when they met though he looked nothing like his age; he was blessed with very youthful looks which earned him the nickname “BabyFace”. They hit it off when he protected Joanne against some rascals who had planned to beat her after classes on a particular day for snubbing them. Joanne lived two streets away from the lesson venue and from the day after the incident, Chux walked her home every day before he boarded a bus to his uncle’s house where he was staying.
They became really close; when it was time to buy the forms for the external examinations, Chux’s uncle came up with stories of how he was going through a difficult time and wasn’t able to pay for the examinations. Joanne wasted no time in approaching her parents who willingly provided enough money to cover both their daughter and her new best friend who she had introduced to her family earlier on.
After the examinations, Chux had to go back to the state where his parents lived to keep supporting his family while he waited for his results; it was a sad moment for him and Joanne at the park, they had grown very fond of each other and Joanne had gotten her father’s driver to take her to the motor park to bid Chux good bye.
Joanne and Chux were both successful in their external examinations and both gained admissions into separate Universities in the same state. Their friendship blossomed and Joanne was a strong support to Chux, she got her parents to pay his school fees a couple of times when it was impossible for him to come up with the fees. Joanne’s parents were extremely nice and they had no issues supporting their daughter Joanne’s less fortunate friend; they had the wherewithal, they only asked to know at least one of his parents to be sure that his claims were not ambiguous. Afterwards, paying school fees and other financial obligations was no longer a big deal for him.
Joanne and Chux became an item and everyone who knew one of them had to know the other, there were times when Joanne’s friends laughed at her for seeing a local chap like Chux but Joanne was in the least bothered; she knew that what she felt for Chux was no longer ordinary, she had fallen in love with him.
All that mattered to Joanne was ensuring that Chux had a secured future, hers was obviously very bright, and she was going back to her country of birth somewhere in Europe for further studies. All she cared about was making sure that Chux was doing okay in every aspect. She paid attention to everything that concerned him; his wardrobe, general well being and even his family. Joanne was not the only one in love; Chux knew that his life would be incomplete without this young lady who loved him in his nothingness.
A year after graduation from the University, Chux proposed to Joanne and she was elated, at this time they had known each other for close to eight years. Their marriage was made in heaven; their love for each other grew even stronger and deeper. While Chux waited for the right time to join his wife in her new location, he got a well paying job and with the way he took care of Joanne’s parents, it was obvious that he was a good man who never forgot the benevolence of this family that took care of him like their own. After a few years, Chux also became a dual citizen of both Nigeria and Joanne’s country of birth; he joined her permanently and then began another phase of their lives.
By the fourth year of their marriage, there were still no children and it dawned on both parties they were battling infertility; they sought medical help at the highest level and even though both parties were certified okay to have kids, their problem still persisted.
The bible says that the heart of man is desperately wicked and that is the only explanation to the events that followed; while Joanne carried on playing the loving and dutiful wife, Chux had other agendas. It was like a sledge hammer had been dropped on Joanne’s head when Chux broke the news to her that he was seeing someone else and had actually asked her to marry him. Joanne was yet to recover from the shock of the news given to her by her husband when she discovered yet another shocker.
Her husband’s mistress who she believed was in Nigeria had actually moved to the same location in Europe where she resided with her husband. Chux had arranged for his new wife to join him and he made all the arrangements without Joanne’s knowledge. It turned out that all the days that Chux came home late he was actually with his new bride.
Joanne’s good naturedness never stopped, Chux’s betrayal did not change her, and she continued to co-exist with him peacefully but the drama was far from over. On her way back from work one evening, a woman who she had never seen until that day came from nowhere and started to say really hateful things to her. She asked Joanne why she still held on to Chux even when she couldn’t give him a child; she booed her and told her that she was just like a man.
Joanne was too shocked to respond and just hurried home before the crazy woman did more than she already did. (This Joanne is just too gentle)When Chux came home that evening, she told him about her encounter with the strange woman and from his expression, she knew that she was the new wife.
Chux saw this as a good opportunity to reveal more secrets and he told Joanne that he purchased a house in the neighbourhood for his wife who was expecting his first children, a set of twins. As strange as it may sound, Joanne was actually happy at the mention twin babies first, before she burst into tears.
She earned way more than Chux and she knew that a lot of their savings had gone into the purchase of the new house. How did she miss that? He had told her a lot of lies. Chux further revealed that he had put up the house where they both lived up for sale. That was just too much for her to bear; she had to let him go. She did not attempt to fight for anything.
The house was sold and Joanne moved into a smaller apartment while Chux moved in with his evil wife who made Joanne’s life very miserable. She would call her phone just to call her names, laugh at her and flaunt her big tummy whenever she saw her just to mock her. (Demon on the loose)
The story just started, Chux and his new wife fell on hard times and it became difficult to even look after the twin baby girls, products of their illicit affair. Guess who Chux called for help? Joanne and guess what again? She paid all the bills that were incurred by Chux and his new family.
Chux and Joanne claim to still be friends, they talk very often but Joanne avoids moments alone with him. She says she still loves him and that what she is going through is the “For Worse” part of her marriage. She says that Chux is a good man who was just under pressure to have his own children and she forgives already. She still pays his bills and what else is new? Chux’s baby mama is still rude and mean to her.
I am sure without an iota of doubt that this is the type of love Christianity talks about; “Heavenly Love”. I hope she wins a price for it that is if no one gets to knock some sense into her head.
Chux needs to be in jail for such betrayal and as for his new bride, she should be in a jungle with the monkeys.
But really, how do you keep loving someone who has betrayed you and keeps betraying you?

ReplyDeleteThe guy might be under a spell or kind of diabolical means. Let the first wife still continue with her love for him and put all in prayer. Very soon things will turn her way for good.

ReplyDeleteHmmmm
ReplyDeleteI'm speechless.
Wishing her the crown of glory at the end of this ordeal.
She has v low self esteem. This is not biblical meekness or submission. She is being exploited by a low life who now feels entitled. Has she no family to wake her up. Rubbish
ReplyDeleteLileas...ah. Chuks is an Ingrate!! After all the trials and tribulations. Joanne is too good and nice. It's not good to be too good. I'll share my story with you
ReplyDeleteThe missing link is that Chux was not rooted in Christ rather he was responding to the prompting of the flesh and so like cock has forgotten the man that pulled the feathers at raining season God help him
ReplyDeleteJoanne is too good and her kind heart must surely earn her a crown of glory. I see her being the mother of those babies in the long run. (Immaculator)
ReplyDeleteHeavenly love indeed! And naivety! Joanne should move on. Chux does not deserve her. He should stay with the rude and insensitive mother of his twins.
ReplyDeleteJoanne is too good or stupid or weak or even strong? I judge not but I know if I were in her shoes I would go on a killing rampage. As life has taught me that too much caring is for the weak !!!
ReplyDeleteThat Joanne needs her head checked. It ain't normal.
ReplyDeleteNo be only Heavenly Love, abeg Jane wake up and read d clear hand writing on d wall - take a walk for good- Coa if Chux is given another opportunity, he will betray u 10 time over!!!.
ReplyDeleteThe heart wants what the heart wants. That is why I always advice people to walk into relationships with their heads not the heart. Love him but save some sense for you...
