Life is such an interesting stage where different actors come to play their roles and leave the stage as and when due. Sometimes reality sounds stranger than fiction.
I got this story off another faithful reader of Lilea’s blog.
Chief Elias was a successful individual in the private sector, very well trained and schooled. He grew up in the Eastern part of Nigeria.
Chief Elias got married to a lady who was betrothed to him as was the tradition in those days in the late 50's.
After their marriage, they faced several years of childlessness, and it was expected that a man of his social standing should definitely have a go at a second marriage, at least to get a heir to inherit his massive wealth.
Chief disappointed his family and friends by his refusal to take another wife, he rejected all the women who were thrown his way and even the ones who threw themselves at him.
He stood by his wife and promised to be with her even if they never had a child. This character was indeed rare among men of chief’s callibre and especially in those days; of course many believed that his wife had diabolically locked him up in a bottle and had total control of his senses.
In truth, Chief loved and cherished his wife so much that all he ever wanted to do was to keep her happy. (how nice) At some point in their lives, Chief and his wife talked about having kids through other means, his wife was comfortable with Chief making babies with another woman. They agreed that the children from the planned arrangement would be raised by his wife as their biological mother and the truth about their real mother would only be revealed to them when they got older.
That other woman turned out to be their house maid, Chief put her in the family way and she bore them a son, it was a joyful season for both Chief and his wife. Soon after she bore the next one, in the end, she had five children for Chief and his wife ; three boys and two girls.
With every child born, chief’s wife assumed nursing mother duties immediately, The kids were usually handed over to her at birth, she raised each child as her own and the maid was never a threat to her.
Like Chief and his wife agreed, the children were shown their biological mother when they were all teens. The bond between chief’s wife and the children is one to be envied, they genuinely love their mother and even after they discovered who their real mother was, nothing changed, they had only one mother, chief's wife.
All the children are married and there's no price for guessing who played the most prominent role in all their weddings.
This arrangement continued and chief's wife was torally in charge.
The house maid never for once complained about the arrangement and she never asked for more.
Chief, his wife and the maid were able to keep the secret of their love triangle for a forty there years..
Chief passed on in 2001, leaving behind a vast estate bequeathed to his wife who as administrator will share among the kids at the proper time.
What a solution to childlessness!

What a solution to childlessness!
Only if the world would keep to promises/deals made, it will be a perfect place to live. Honesty & Loyalty can really go along way
ReplyDeleteWhat a solution indeed, if only the parties involved can hold up their own end of the bargain!!
ReplyDeleteThis is one out of many love triangles that didn't end in disaster. I'm happy at the peace they enjoy and pray that greed does not ruin their lives.
