MTN FOUNDATION 'What Can We Do Together' initiative celebrates nominators in Port Harcourt.
Nominators of the MTN Foundation 'What Can We Do Together' initiative in the South-South and South East regions were treated to a heroic celebration in Port Harcourt at an event to appreciate them for bringing positive development to their communities.
Through their nominations, various communities in the regions received 500KVA transformers, 650ft boreholes, medical equipment supply to primary healthcare centres and donations of school furniture sets.
The event was organised to demonstrate the 'hand-in-hand' symbolic principle behind the 'What Can We Do Together' initiative, that by partnering with the Foundation as individuals, together we can complement government's efforts of bringing positive development to our communities across the country.
The nominators were received by stakeholders in the regions; community leaders, state government functionaries and the management team of MTN Nigeria and the MTN Foundation.
The highpoint of the event was the presentation of plaques to the nominators and the premiere of a documentary that told the emotive story showing the various stages of the projects - from nomination, selection processes to the verification exercises to assess the genuine need of the projects by the selected communities, delivery of items, installations and commissioning of the projects across beneficiary communities.
All of this showed the rigours that went into the projects through the stages. Since inception of the initiative launched at the MTN Foundation's 10th anniversary commemoration in 2015, 400 communities have been impacted in phases one and two.
In these two phases, 40 500KVA transformers have been installed; 40 650ft boreholes installed, 66 orphanages have received household supplies, 174 schools have received donations of 14,200 sets of furniture and 80 primary healthcare centres have received medical supplies.
This positive development to the various communities across the country was made possible by the nominators who responded to the call for entries by the MTN Foundation in phases one and two.
The MTNF Appreciation party train will move to Lagos July 19th to celebrate nominators and stakeholders in the South West and finally berth in Abuja July 26th to celebrate nominators and stakeholders from the north.
