It was a beautiful evening tonight; I attended the installation of the new President of Rotary Club of Lagos, District 9110 Nigeria. It was an evening that I had looked forward to not just because it was going to be my first time of attending an installation ceremony but also because I was going to be a co-host at the event.
It was such an honour to have been asked to be a part of the event and from the day that I was told I looked forward to it with so much anticipation. The day finally came and it was indeed a beautiful evening and worth all of my time.
The new President was one of the few Rotarians that I noticed on my first day at the club; but who wouldn’t notice this amiable man whose height alone stood him out.
I usually sit quietly at Rotary fellowships and watch everything with a little bit of interest (thanks to ADS) yet making my observations and studying each member’s conduct.
For this reason, I could easily pick a lot from the new president’s actions, first, he is a gentleman to the core and it even shows in the way and manner that he speaks, the sort of voice that you hear and wonder if the owner of the voice can quarrel or even scream in annoyance.
It just shows that the vocal chords have not been damaged by our local delicacies of amala, pounded yam, semo or fufu with egusi, efo ri nro or gbegiri (probably not).
He walks just as he talks and even though we never interacted that much I could see how he treated everyone with so much respect and courtesy.
Then I learnt that he was the incoming president, of course that did not come as a surprise to me, the only thing that surprised me was the fact that he wasn’t a president long before and I wondered how that was even possible.
The evening was chaired by the super smart Mr. Fola Adeola who gave a beautiful opening speech. Another highlight of the event was the Guest Speaker Prof. Fabian Ajogwu's address, it was mind-blowing though one wouldn't expect less from a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
The high point of the evening was the installation of the new President. With his delectable wife solidly beside him, Mr. Soboma Ajumogobia received the mantle of leadership to steer the affairs of the club for the next one year. Here’s wishing him an amazing tenure filled with several achievements.
Oh how I wish it wasn’t just Rotary club President but the President that resides in the Rock (there’s a three letter word before the Rock but I cannot remember the word. lol). Anyway,
Congratulations Mr. President! Hope you will have an amazing year! God bless
