I am not a politician and I do not belong to any political party, I also try as much as possible to stay away from discussing or writing about it.
You see, politics is meant to be a an interesting topic with the intrigues and all but in our beautiful country Nigeria some half baked elements have turned it into a dreaded space filled with diabolical, fetish and really evil tales.
It is always about one woman or man taking an oath or making human sacrifices somewhere in the bush, it is usually a “do or die” affair and so people go to any length to win in politics. The focus is usually on the power, wealth and fame and that is why nothing gets done most of the time.
Some politicians take over and do absolutely nothing different from their predecessor; it is often like a déjà vu which leaves members of the public wondering how they got screwed a second, third, fourth and even fifth time.
I love politics but I have trained myself to hate it, because in Nigeria, politics turns friends to enemies; and people, especially those who suffer most from the insensitiveness of those in authority scream more than everyone else and are even ready to die for the political parties that they belong to or believe in.
Anambra state which happens to be my state by marriage is my focus here, I have watched and observed silently and from a very good distance the man Governor Willie Obiano; first of all I like his name, Willie sounds friendly and warm and I believe a name says a lot about its bearer.
As a bona-fide Igbo girl, Christmas holiday is never complete without visiting home and my last Christmas holiday in Anambra last year is still my best so far. The reason is simple, we enjoyed such a high level of security that it was hard to believe we were in Anambra state where in the past, it was a taboo to be outside your home after 6pm.
When I asked what was going on, the response was, “Willie is working!”
A trip to the capital city of Awka one evening further confirmed the popular slogan “Willie is working”, everywhere was bright, the many street lights were all working and shining very brightly and people walked about very freely.
To me, a starting point to curbing crime in a society is to first of all ensure that everywhere is well lit at night. It is often difficult to commit any crime where you can easily be seen; Anambra state government sure understands the importance of light in a community.
I still wonder how the state is able to power the street lights which come up at the same time everyday considering the epileptic power situation across the nation. A big kudos Mr. Governor!
The security and a well lit environment that I enjoyed further raised my curiosity to see things for myself and so I started to ask randomly about the governor’s other achievements in the state, I needed to be sure that the government was touching other areas that needed improvement. I got information from the citizens that the government had spread its tentacles to make positive changes in all sectors.
The Agricultural sector has been taken to another level, Anambra state is now one of the major food producing states in the country.
The technology sector suddenly started booming from the support it receives from the state government.
The youths of the state are not left out, there are various activities which have kept them engaged and happy, little wonder there is a recline of criminal activities in the state that is in addition to the aggressive clampdown on and pursuit of criminals in the Anambra.
Criminal hideouts have been discovered and destroyed without fear or favour and there is no hiding place for perpetrators of crime.
All the achievements of this governor have made him a hero to a good number of Anambrarians who want nothing but the best for the state and I truly wish him good luck in the upcoming elections.
Governor Obiano deserves a second term, he has done so much for the people of Anambra state that his second tenure should be non negotiable.
There must be continuity of the good works that are ongoing in the state and if I had the physical strength to fight I would be at the forefront carrying a huge placard with the inscription, “Anyi cholu Willie ozo” meaning “We want Willie again”. (Are you still wondering if there will be a fight? Lol)
Just to curb some people’s curiosity, this write up is absolutely unsolicited; although I know the governor and his wife very well…,on television and in the papers. Lol
The governor has done so well in the state and I urge all who are available to vote to do the needful. I want to keep seeing his face on TV especially the face of that fair man who usually stands behind him.

Hmmm....fair man kwa? Anyways, it's good to hear that an elected official is actually doing what he's elected to do these days. Apart from the lights, what about the highway roads?
