Bold Enough!

The last two posts were on encounters with doctors. One good doctor and one hell of a bad doctor whose name should be struck off the doctors' roll and should never be allowed to practice anymore. 

I've received several comments and similar stories and it's unbelievable the number of women who have been molested by their doctors at some point in their lives. 

Chikaodi (not real name) was sixteen years old when she realised that the examinations by the family doctor were not genuine. The first day her mother took her to see this doctor she was nine years and her eyes were bright yellow. 

This very good doctor diagnosed that she had hepatitis and went straight to work. It could have been fatal but for the timely intervention and expertise of the doctor; Chikaodi was out of school for three weeks and after her recovery, a bond was formed between this doctor and her family.

Nine years later, Chikaodi was back at Dr. Odologwu’s (not real name) for the first time as a teenager and all by herself. Her mother dropped her off, she had a meeting and would come back for her daughter; besides Chikaodi was old enough to tell the doctor who had become family what was wrong with her.

She was unusually quiet on the way home; in her mind she tried to connect the dots from her vagina to her head or her joints. Why did Dr. Odologwu examine her vagina? She knew that something was wrong but couldn’t quite fathom it. A week later she was back at the clinic, the symptoms persisted; this time her eyes were wide open and she watched as the doctor wore his surgical gloves looking all professional. He pushed her legs apart, she was already undressed on the examination bed and covered in the hospital bed sheet, he said thanks to the nurse who walked away and he locked the door.

At first he had a serious look on his face as Chikaodi kept looking at him, then she felt a little pain and shut her eyes; as she opened them immediately he saw the look of ecstacy on his face and immediately sat up. This action brought the pathetic doctor back to reality and he opened his eyes (idiot) stammering, he showed her white substance on the glove saying, your illness is caused by too much yeast – what the eff?!!

It was confirmed, this doctor violated her a second time, she felt used, dirty, worthless and filthy, to have been touched by a useless almost seventy year old man. The old bastard fingered her and could have possibly broken her hymen in the process. She never mentioned it to her family for fear of ruining the friendship but she simply refused to be ever treated by Dr. Odologwu again.

Chikaodi says it’s been over a decade and the doctor passed on a few years ago but she finds it hard to forgive him, she says she hopes he is suffering in hell fire. The hatred for this doctor is still fresh in her heart and she still struggles to forgive him. The scar of sexual molestation is very hard to heal.

I hope Chikaodi can finally find peace now that she has shared her story and possibly forgive the ignorant late doctor.

Vanessa’s story is similar, she had fertility issues, her friend’s father was her gynaecologist; as he checked her breasts on one of her visits, he went from examining to caressing her breasts. That was her last visit to his hospital, thank God the medication worked, she didn’t have to go back anyway (Dirty old man)

I won't fail to acknowledge that there are very good doctors out there who will rather drink poison than betray the trust of their patients.

I really hope that this new generation of young people are bold enough to speak out now; parents please have this talk with your young children, they must tell it as it is. The first step is to teach them to be fearless.
