So I got a call from someone who says he reads my blog;
I am a frequent visitor to your blog and I am calling to tell you that I have suffered enough, I am a graduate and I passed in flying colours; I have tried severally to get a good job to no avail.
My parents struggled to put me through school and it depresses me that I am still not able to pay them back. I still ask them for money and it makes me feel bad.
The only job I had was as an office assistant in a private company. I quit after six months; how do you reconcile serving tea with a graduate of Economics?
I will turn thirty in a couple of weeks and I have promised myself to take drastic measures as soon as I hit the BIG 3 0.
I recently contacted my childhood friend who has been successful for a long time; I did his assignments back in school and we were really good friends. He was so happy to hear from me and he asked me to visit him in the part of the country where he resides with his beautiful family.
That trip was an eye opener and I am all the more determined to make it in life. He shared some of his business secrets with me and promised to give further information when he is able to trust me more.
I suspect that he is in a cult and I have made up my mind to do whatever possible to be wealthy. These are my options, to join a cult or the yahoo boys that I see throwing money around. Money is money and in Nigeria it does not matter how you earn it.
People look down on me a lot and I need to take my place in the society by all means. I know that it is wrong but you and your readers must agree with me that money matters more than any other thing in Nigeria.
What a coincidence! Today I listened to a talk by a priest and he mentioned that money is more important than its source in our society today. He also mentioned that the illiterates earn more than the educated peeps. Everything is upside down and wrong is the new right.
My dear frequent visitor, do not and I repeat, do not engage in any illegal means of money making; you will most definitely regret it; you will be caught because you are not cut out for it. If you were you would jump right into it and not even discuss it. I wish you all the best!
my dear yes "money is money for Nigeria and dosen't matter how yu make it" but yu can ask Evans if this pholosophy is right
ReplyDeleteMoney answereth all things, but doesn't mean all the answers are correct! Like Amaka said, you'll get caught or worse becuz you ain't cut out for it. Who is?
ReplyDeleteIt's not the first time people with degrees up to 100 are serving tea to survive. Be humble. 30 is just a number. Do you want to become rich because you want to get out of poverty or you want to leave a legacy behind?
I hate poverty too..the rich man has more friends I get it but don't pay with your life for nothing. Colonel sanders was poor most of his life...you know the rest!
I'm just smoking. They said we should think out side the box. Someone once said that if you give a dropout 50k he or she will turn it to millions but if you give a graduate 500k he or she will mess it up in orishirishi... There's a small cooperative going on where you're given 50k to start farming. Please Lilea tell him to call me. He should forget about all this degrees etc... Farming is the answer
ReplyDeleteMy dear graduate of Economics from Nigerian prestigious University wake up and stop dreaming. It pains me so much when I see young people glory over this piece of paper called certificate why because so many of them so much believe in it that they hardly look around to see what other opportunity there is around them. I was like you some years back though I never believed in salary ( 30days equal to one pay), so with the Euphoria of being a graduate after three years of working for peanut I gathered all I have plus friends and family support went into business. I started my first business in 2003 with over 600k and in six months I closed shop because I came down to zero couldn't even afford a sachet water.then I took a decision to under go personal development ( reading books and attending free seminars) I went into my second business in 2005 with a borrowed 4k (four thousand Naira) I succeeded. Today I have two machines and two generator for my packaging business, married, have a little cab to move about. Now I am on my third business (Farming). So why do you wish to leave another mans life? Why compare yourself with others whose destiny is at variant with yours? Have you discovered your purpose and talent? Go to the scriptures Matthew 25 v 14 - 43 make understand that everyone created by God was given at least a talent according to his or her ability. So what is your talent? How have you put it to use or did you bury it? What service or goods or ideas that you have that great a solution? Since you left school how many books have you read or seminars have you attended? The white man say knowledge is power so what is your knowledge base? What most of us fail to realize is that we go to university to obtain information and what ever use we put this information is they education and knowledge. To tell how important certificate is to me I am yet to collect my Bsc. Certificate from Unilag and my PGD from Unizik., after over 15yearz but the knowledge nobody can take away from me. If I catch people like in my seminar you will forget that piece of paper you call certificate. Wake up friend and think out of the box.
ReplyDeleteI still don't understand how people that read books written by another man feels so entitled because they got a degree after that. I guess the blame lies on the government for not emphasizing more on technical training schools. Go & learn a trade man & stop looking for the easiest way out. Remember Otokoto ???
ReplyDeleteYou want to join yahoo boys and cultists? I hope you will be ready for what it takes... Make sure you will be willing to sleep in a coffin, make love to a corpse, bath the corpse and drink the water.. YES that's what most of these yahoo boys you throwing money around do to stay afloat.. It's a not one off deal oh,you would Constantly be required to renew this covenant. This is so you know, am not telling you stories... Someone who tried it told his story. You are blessed to have people on this platform advising you to consider legitimate means of livelihood. What do you love doing effortlessly, look deep,attend seminars in that regard and give it your best.. it won't be easy but you will be happy with yourself in no time.
