A Feminist today

I will never understand why the woman is usually both the culprit and the victim in a case of infidelity. Recently, some very gory pictures were shared online of two adults who were found stone dead presumably after one or two bouts of sex in a car.

The man was without his pair of trousers and with his two legs wide open covering his cassava with both hands while the woman had on a skimpy dress suitable for some quick action and both lived in the same compound as reported. What a way to meet the Saviour but then they could have been murdered and framed to portray what we now all see. Who knows?

It was reported that after the news was broken to the late woman’s husband, he stated that he was aware that his wife was cheating on him. His reaction made people to believe that he possibly went diabolical on his late wife.

I looked at the pictures and I felt pity for the obviously young man whose life was cut short in such an unpalatable way, read that his wife who is still nursing a baby was inconsolable, how sad!

I particularly feel sad about the woman because nobody, man or woman deserves to die a shameful death. It is unconfirmed if the husband in question went diabolical on the wife and so I am speaking from a general perspective and considering what happens in some African communities where it is common place for some men to keep their wives in check diabolically.

Some tribes make the woman swear an oath to die if she ever sleeps with another man, little wonder some widows never remarry.  In some other places, the curse is inherent as soon as woman get married to a local. They can tell from a particular tragedy that a woman has eaten the forbidden fruit.

According to the propagators of these evil traditions, there is nothing wrong with keeping a woman in check, really? Who keeps the man in check? I am all for the sanctity of the marriage but it must not be the responsibility of the woman alone.

We know about the “magun” the voodoo that makes individuals who engage in an illicit affair stick together until the person (usually the husband or the voodoo priest)who has the antidote to the magun comes to separate them.

I will be a feminist today and ask this question, why is the magun only invoked on the women? I have never heard of a man whose wife put magun on yet the men tend to cheat more….or not?

Anyway, in my opinion it is evil to invoke evil on your spouse for infidelity. You love someone for better or for worse and if you truly love your wife, you would never think of hurting her. Why disgrace her or even go as far as killing her.

In the bible, when Joseph thought that the Blessed Virgin Mary was made pregnant by another man, he resolved to divorce her in secret to avoid bringing shame to her for her was a man of honour. A man, who disgraces his wife for whatever reason lacks honour, dignity and respect, it’s as simple as that!

I truly pray that the souls of these two young lovers find rest as compensation for the shameful way that they passed on.

  3. Amaka,
1st of all, I suggest you display images that, at least depict/illustrate the story.
2ndly, Why I think African culture & in fact most of the world cultures men are treated differently in matters of marital infidelity are that men pay the dowry on the head of the woman & not vice versa, men can actually marry the women he sleeps around wuth & bring them into the house to co-habit with their spouses & nothing is amiss; women can't. Men don't walk about half naked & in very erotic, sexually provocative/suggestive & seductive dresses & fashion that seduce & invite men to treat or to cheat, which makes women culprits & accessories before the act & the fact. Men don't.
Despite that men are indeed the wwaker sex, especially in sexual matters, it is still a man's world.
Unfortunately, no amount of feminism would change that.

  4. "This is a man's world but it's absolutely nothing without a woman". To all the women out there, continue the fight for equality & recognition.
