Giving Spree

When I wrote yesterday on extraordinary things to do this season, little did I know that someone had gone an extra mile to document his extraordinary act of goodwill.

Now some goody two shoes (hope this is the right phrase.lol) will frown and say it's wrong to publicise one's benevolence.  I agree but before you criticise another person please search yourself and if you have not done any act of unimaginable kindness then just hush it.

So back to how to create a positive impact this season

Say "I  love you" to your parents or any other person that matters to you. (It doesn't matter if they give you a suspicious look). And please don't say you read it from Lilea's blog when you say it to a married woman or man and there's trouble. Lol.

It's not our culture to express love in this manner but I've learnt that the same way harsh words are not forgotten, kind words said stick for ever.

Smile at a stranger just for the sake of it.

Offer to babysit for a friend (please don't pinch a poor child when you get frustrated.lol)

Cook something special and send to a friend or total stranger.

Spend a few hours in any charity home.

Go to a general hospital and pray with the sick.  You may also find someone whose hospital bill is not up to what you spend in a day on alcohol or a meal.

Do something for the religious men and women who are most times forgotten.

Instead of a shopping spree this season why don't you go on a giving spree.  Give your time, your treasure and talent, give your smile, laughter and love. Give your wisdom, your strength and care.

The list is endless but I wouldn't end without mentioning this very important point... Give yourself a big treat!

You may not have exhausted your "to do" or "to achieve" list but hey! You are still here

Go get a good massage,  pedicure/foot rub, facials or nice hair cut or hair do.

Go watch a feel good movie all by yourself or with a friend you haven't been with in a long time or even with your sister or brother.

Strictly for the ladies, invest in a good wig. The type that doesn't fall off easily.

Dye your hair and look younger or carefree.

Sing at a karoke and laugh at yourself if you sound like a frog.

Take one day off from everything (PHONE!)and everyone, make sure there's enough supply for your generator (don't let NEPA spoil your rythym). Sleep, wake up, eat, watch TV, read, sleep again, wake up and continue the routine.

The video of the man who went on a giving spree is the very first video on my blog and I'm happy to share it.

Whatever good you start this season please continue even beyond the season and never forget this quote. The best thing in life is to love the next best thing is to give - Proudly Amaka's quote😁

  1. OMW!I found this video so moving & I'm particularly chuffed that beneficiaries were women struggling daily to eke out a living and potentially make their children's lives better than their own. You know what they say about empowering women translating to empowering whole communities? However I digress. The kicker for me in this video was the principle of giving to those so easily overlooked in our society. How many of us really look into the faces of hawkers and market women when we haggle over their wares? I agree with you Max that some will miss the point and focus instead on the fact that the giver made a video of his acts of kindness, forgetting that if he hadn't we wouldn't know or be inspired as a result. From what I saw, he wasn't hung up on the publicity, after all the camera barely zoomed in on him and he didn't proceed to give us a speech at the end of it all! Thumbs up to him. May there be more of us like him in our country - who look, who take notice and who follow up with practical action.

  2. Many of us also get into the habit of bargaining very hard with hawkers about goods worth very little but don't bargain in supermarkets. This Christmas don't bargain, pay what they ask.

  3. Yes. Giving is great. Making time for it is another thing. That guy has a foundation. He's on IG and he moves around and gives. Video did make me teary eyed and yes, tell everyone how you appreciate and love them.

  4. Amy thank you for this video. It awakened something in me as I watched it and I couldn't control my tears. We really need to give no matter how small. That which you considered small could mean the world to another.
