Visual Effects?

It's still about the best season in life, the season of love, giving and merry making.

It's also a season of wishful thinking and definitely a season of making new friends.

It was in the spirit of the season that I got introduced to this beautifully handsome young man (Pardon my English). He is 21 years old and currently studies Visual Effects in Canada. I met him with his mother at a party and the young man stole every ladies heart at the party, young and old including mine surely.

I engaged him in a conversation and all the while as we spoke I couldn't stop wishing that I had a beautiful daughter to be to him a wife and companion.

Apart from his good looks, another striking thing about him was his chosen  area of study; Visual effects?

This area is like a Virgin land in Nigeria completely untapped and it makes me smile at the bright future of this young man If he decides to bless us with his training.

According to his mother, he had always been good in arts and it was a natural progression of things when he opted for Visual Effects.

Then again that is the edge those who find themselves outside the shores of Nigeria have. Students are encouraged to follow their passion and go for fields where they will easily excel in.

There are varieties of courses to choose from and its a totally different situation from us here in Nigeria. I may be wrong but I do not know of a Nigerian University that offers Visual Effects as a course. If there are, my apologies.

Over here, Medicine, Law, Engineering, Accountancy or Computer Science for the more adventurous top the chart of favourite courses to study in Nigeria and parents play a huge role in this lack of diversity in students.

Everyone ( that includes me ) wants at least one Medical doctor child. But who doesn't want to be addressed as the mother or father of a Doctor or Lawyer?(Our local champion mentality). Lol.

I also cannot easily think of ten parents who wouldn't raise an eye brow if their child chooses an unpopular course to study in the University.

Notwithstanding the untold hardship caused by this scarcity of petrol from the pit of Nigerian hell, I wish Tobenna the very best in his chosen field.

Tobenna Ukatu has a book to his name and he loves music, martial arts and other physical activities. He is on clear path to great things and I have no doubt that he will play big in his sector. Just remember that you read about him here first. (Yea yea)

Now, it is my pleasure to share with my readers some of his drawings which to me set this young artist apart from the rest.

You may follow the him on Instagram @theartsassin to see more of his work.

  2. I wish the young man the very best in the future. My biggest fear however is that he is another one of our young ones who will be lost to the nation. In a developing country such as Nigeria, such sort skills are far less valuable than Emgineering, medicine, Architecture etc although such skills are required in the advertising industry, mass media etc. BTW, did you notice that all the sketches were of 'Caucasian' women? Sorry Amaka, you are too late. The boy wants oyinbo😁

    2. He has drawn several black women on his instagram page, these are just a small few of drawings displayed and even then one of them is an asian woman. And with discouragement from society to do art(such as your comment) how do you expect him to not be lost to the nation? Mass amounts of youth and people looking for money oversaturate the Engineering, Medicine and Architecture department as well.
