Happy New Year!

Happy New Year good people!!

I'm quite happy to see a new year in good health of mind and body.

It means another opportunity to get it right or do it better.

I am quite grateful to all my faithful readers,  you kept me writing and keeping it real.  Let's do it again this year, just share my link to everyone you know and I will be well on my way to the big money.  I'll definitely share. Lol

I stopped believing in resolutions a long time ago so I didnt bother wasting my ink, scribbling dos and donts that I know I will hardly adhere to.

What I did however was to ask myself a simple question.  "Amaka do you want to be good or bad?"

I have answered that question and that will guide my actions this year.  Please don't ask what the answer is.

I'm not superstitious but something happened today in my Lokpanta that got me thinking.

I took a photographer and off I went with some of father's grandchildren to show them the village that lives in me.

Our first call was a river spot; a short cut from the expressway to my home.  The River is called Mmavu, growing up there were all sorts of strange tales about it. The scariest was a mermaid being sighted in it. It's not too deep yet a lot drowned in it.

I'm sure you are thinking right now of how stupid I was to have taken the children there. The River dries up in the dry season so we basically stood on dry ground which ordinarily was the bottom of the River.

Now back to my story, the photographer took a picture of us while we were down there or so I thought. As we left for another sight I could see the worried look on his face. (the photographer is an indigene)

After we posed and took some pictures at  another spot,  he approached me to say the strangest thing ever.

His camera locked and wouldn't take any pictures while we were at the dried up Mmavu River.

The River gods simply refused to have a picture of their domain taken.

It's laughable though but it happened and the photographer was visibly shaken.

The best part of it was the terrified look on the faces of the children.  Hahahahaha, they will not forget Lokpanta in a hurry.

  2. Interesting story. I think it's a worthy cause taking children to their roots;let them know and see the different shades of 'life'. The photos are sonice. The place looks so natural/peaceful compared to Lagos... But the comments about river gods, pictures of cursed markets and shrines makes me wonder about how peaceful it really is.
