More than a Drink (Conclusion)

Wisdom they say comes with age and I couldn't agree more.

Obika wasn't quite sure what his father wanted to say or what mission he needed to accomplish, he was still thinking when the old man dropped his own bombshell. 

Dr. Egonu Obika SNR. told his son that he had been at the point of sending his mother away severally but never had the guts to actually do it. Just like his son he fell out of love with her a few years into their marriage  but could never take that decision to let her go.

He had also fallen in love recently with his chief nurse who makes him feel young. He thanked Obika for giving him the courage that he had lacked for a long time.

To say that Obika was outraged is to say the least. It took a lot of self control to stop himself from hitting his father on the face.

As Obika left his old man he felt very bitter, he rushed to be with his mother who was oblivious of her husband's thoughts. He was still with her when his father returned for work. 

She welcomed him warmly and asked her son to excuse her to go take care of her husband. From where he sat, Obika observed his parents carefully. He did not say anything to his mother about his conversation with Obika SNR.

He watched them eat together and speak in low tones. When they began to laugh, it struck him that he was the topic and that he had been made to look stupid by his father and now his mother.

That night he imagined what his children would feel if he sent their mother away. Very early the next day without waking his parents up, Obika went back to his base and immediately slowed down things between him and his lover. 

The next time his father called him, he said to him "silly boy, put my daughter on the line" after speaking to Obika's wife, he hung up.

It's been over five years, Obika is still living with his wife, they have two more children and Daisy or any other like her is nowhere in the picture .
