Dear Lilea’s blog,
Just call me Jae (not real name). I have been a silent reader of your blog and from the comments I have come to realise that your readers are really mature and see things from different strong perspectives and I respect that a lot.
I have no doubt that my issue
will receive attention and the best advice given.
I was eighteen years old when I started
dating Sly (not real name), he was the second guy that ever approached me in my adult life. I was
a very shy girl and without being told I knew that I lacked self confidence. I wouldn’t
go to social gatherings and kept to myself most of the time.
All I did was to study and I was
quite good in my academics; I made straight As in secondary school and by the
end of the first semester everyone in my class in the University knew that I was a force to reckon
with. A lot of people tried to get close to me but because I believed
that they wanted to be my friend just so I could help them with school work
made me stay away; I had an inferiority complex and I knew it was because of my
height.
I got my short height from my
father who is just a little over 5ft 4in tall, we were the same height and I always
wish that I was just a little bit taller.
Sly was different, I never even
knew that we were in the same class till our second year in the University. I met
him on my way to class from the hostel, I had a big suitcase because I was
going to go home after my last class, it was student’s week and I’d rather stay
at home. I just felt someone grab my suitcase from behind and insisted on
carrying it all the way to wherever I was going to. He wouldn't let me resist.
It turned out that we were going
to the same class so we sat together all through our lectures, in the end he
walked me to the motor park where I boarded a vehicle.
When I got back after the one
week break, I was so excited to see Sly in class the following day and he
seemed happy to see me too. We had lunch together in the afternoon and that
became our routine. Without any formalities Sly and I started a relationship which
became quite serious, I lost my innocence to him on a certain Valentine’s day
in his off-campus accommodation. On that day he told me that he loved and promised to be
with me forever after he discovered that he was the first man I ever knew.
We basically lived together the
rest of our years in the University and everyone knew that we were a couple. In
our third year, we won the best couple on campus and I must say that Sly brought out
the best in me, he was a really nice person and made more confident and a lot
friendlier to people.
He was full of life and really very funny, he made me very happy and a lot of times, while he slept I
watched him sleep and wondered how I was lucky enough to get such a good
looking man who was also over 6ft tall as a boyfriend.
In our final year Sly
gave me an engagement ring and we promised to get married to each other at the right time. We both
graduated with very good grades, Sly was equally smart and so we complemented
each other. We even held tutorials at exam periods which really
endeared us to other students; Sly made me a totally different person and I loved
him deeply.
The problem started when we were
posted to different states for our National Youth Service Corp; we were in touch
always and had planned that after our postings the one with a better job would
decide where we both would live.
Waiting ooooo
