A Sinful Level

Adamma ran into Olumide at a wedding in Lagos. At first she wasn't sure if he was the same person that she knew way back in school but there was a striking resemblance that she couldn't miss.

It suddenly brought back memories of the night she met him. She went to a University in the Eastern part of Nigeria. In her three years of being a student of that institution she never came across a non Igbo till she went to study in one of the classrooms in the environmental studies' block.

She decided to change her routine that evening so she could avoid her friends who usually distracted her whenever they studied together.

She did poorly the last semester and if she didn't do anything about it she would actually fail s9me of her courses.

She developed a crush on him as soon as she sighted him. The classroom was locked and after knocking for a little she made to walk away but then the door was opened from inside.

A male student whose face was familiar asked what she wanted and she asked if she could study in their classroom. 

Some students sometimes secured their classrooms from other students just so there wouldn't be a lot of people to minimise noise and other distractions.

When Adamma stood knocking she knew it was one of such classes and was happy when they let her in. She felt safe even though she was the only girl among all those boys but secretly prayed that she would indeed be safe.

Standing by the board clad in only a pair of jeans was the guy whose name she got to know later that night was Olumide. He hung his t-shirt on his shoulder and he held a chalk.

Olumide was conducting a tutorial session for a small group of guys. Adamma saw another form of distraction for she could hardly concentrate and couldn't keep her eyes off the young ebony black good looking man.

When she couldn't pretend to be reading any longer she said her thanks and good night and made for the door. 

She wasnt sure if what she heard was directed at her. A voice asked her to wait. "I'll walk you to your hostel, it's too dangerous" was what Olumide said to her as he wore his t-shirt. 

She was more than delighted for two reasons; she fancied him and it was a little bit scared to walk alone at that time. They chatted as they walked down the pathway and basically got to know each other.

After that day they saw each other a few more times. They knew that they had a connection but for certain reasons they couldn't move their friendship beyond saying hello on the walkway and chatting occasionally.

Olumide graduated from school and that ended the friendship that they tried very little to nurture. There were no cell phones in those days and so the relationship died naturally.

It had been ten years since they saw each other till that fateful Saturday. Adamma followed her sister to her colleague's wedding who turned out to be Olumide' s sister.

Olumide was visibly happy and excited to see her again and he came back again and again to chat and ensure that she was well taken care of.

Adamma is married with two children just like Olumide. They have been speaking and exchanging messages since they reconnected.

The issue now is that both individuals have rekindled their friendship and want to take it to a sinful level.

Adamma has never been with any other man since she got married to her husband. Olumide also claims same and so they want to take this first leap together.

Me: Flee from evil, this leap may be too deep to come out from. To Adamma, do not bite the bait for the consequences may be too grave. Give yourselves time and you will both get over this rekindled crush. Now I know why some men cage their their wives.
