More than Love

As they lay in bed, Fola and Jide stared at each other without saying any word.

Suddenly Jide began to shed tears while Fola kept staring at him. She knew the reason for his tears, it had happened a lot of times.

She used to be the cry baby but not anymore, she had accepted that it was her life and she had no power to change things. She would wait for a super natural force to intervene.

Fola worked as a secretary to Mr. Oke who was Jide's very good friend. She was fresh out of school and it was her first job.

Jide was at the office to see his friend and noticed that his secretary who was usually very boisterous was sulking on that day.

It was the first time he would say anything more than a hello to her. He asked why she looked so sad but she sacarstically told him that she was fine.

A few days later Jide was surprised to receive a call from Fola and she was quick to say that it was unofficial.

She first of all apologised for being a bit rude the last time she saw him. Then she went on to plead with him to put in a word for her to her boss.

He had appraised her quite poorly and would not change the scores which meant that she would be laid off if nothing was done. She admitted that she had not put in her best but promised to do better.

After the call Jide couldn't get her off his mind. He did put in a word and Fola got another chance at the job.

She called Jide to appreciate him and he jokingly invited her for a drink to celebrate the miracle.

It was Jide's first time of cheating on his wife and he hoped it would be a one off. It has been ten whole years and they are still in a relationship.

Fola was twenty-five years old when they met, Jide was forty. He is still the only man Fola has ever known.

She has turned down three serious suitors because she did not love any of them. She says she will never love any man like she loves Jide.

To her there's no point going into a marriage when she's sure that she will always be back in Jide's arms. She has had several abortions and practically given up on living any other kind of life but the dangerous one she does with Jide.

Jide feels the same way about Fola. Mr. Oke made Fola lose her job when he discovered the affair and it also affected his relationship with Jide.

Mrs. Oke told Jide's wife about her husband's mistress which caused problems for a while. Jide's wife left her matrimonial home but after her family intervened the couple were reconciled with Jide making a promise not to see Fola anymore.

He got Fola a job in another town in a bid to end the affair but it had no effect. It made them want each other more.

Lying down on the bed in the room that night Jide had promised himself that it would be their last night together.

He had it all worked out, Fola's study visa was ready and she would leave for further studies. She was going to pursue a graduate programme not because she cared much about that but it was their last attempt at ending the Godforsaken  relationship.

Jide was sure that his wife knew he was still seeing his mistress but never discussed it just for peace to reign.

From her cold attitude it was obvious she knew his open secret but he couldn't help himself. He has a forbidden addiction to Fola.

He shed tears that night for several reasons; he had almost ruined an innocent girl's life, he also knew that he would definitely see her again. Scotland isn't too far.

What he felt for Fola was more than love, it was strong enough to watch his wife cry at night and not feel remorse. He was hurting his family yet unable to stop.

He shed tears because he knew deep down that only death may put an end to this sweetly disastrous affair.

Me: Thinking that only death will put an end to the affair is a lie from the pit of hell. We have the power to do all things once we bring God into the picture. Jide and Fola need Christ, that's all.
