Destiny's wedding was everything it promised to be. The venue was beautifully done in her favourite colour purple.
It was also the official colour of the day and aunty bonz was gracious enough to give out cheap purple laces to her neighbours including mama Obi without any charges.
She invited almost everyone on her street because she wanted them to experience what may be the only big wedding some of them would attend.
She instructed some ushers to ensure that her neighbours were well entertained. She was moving to another part of town and so it was a sort of farewell party.
The street was dull without aunty bonz and everyone admitted to it. Nobody declared free drinks for the guys that would gather in front of Papa Obi's kiosk anymore.
The children had no one to give out sweets to them and the young adults and teenagers had nobody to confide in.
They missed the spice she added to the neighbourhood and the way she laughed freely.
They had nothing and no one to gossip about anymore and they did not have to stay awake to monitor her midnight guests.
Destiny's husband was a rich widower and for lack of gossip her neighbours started to imagine that she killed the man's wife to marry her husband.
He was a lot older than her but from his actions on their wedding day you could tell that he dotted on her.
The first time aunty bonz visited her former neighbourhood she was heavily pregnant and those around were delighted to see her.
Before she left she ordered free drinks for everyone present in papa Obi's kiosk as usual and as she got into her car to leave, they were chants of #aunty bonz aunty boz!"
Destiny had three children in quick succession; she was very much in touch with the people she lived with in the past especially mama Obi which surprised many people.
It was the same mama Obi who shared the story of what transpired between Destiny and her husband.
She insisted that Destiny wouldn't drop her past completely.
Destiny's husband missed his flight out of Enugu and had to go back home.
He walked straight into Destiny and another man in their guest room. He had looked for her in their bedroom and the kitchen and when he didn't find her decided to check the other rooms.
Little wonder she didn't hear his car or any noise that he must have made; the volume of the television was very high. It was a strategic move by Destiny to prevent the domestic staff from hearing the sound of her sexcapade with the unknown man.
Destiny's husband shut the door and left. The strange man ran as fast as his legs could take him, out of the house.
Destiny packed some of her things and as she made to leave, she saw her husband seated comfortably in the living room watching the television.
As she walked out, she told him she would come later for the children when they returned from the day care centre they attended.
Her husband's reaction came as a surprise. He asked her where she was going and if he asked her to leave.
He also asked if any other person knew of the incident and went further to ask her to keep her mouth shut. He asked her to get back inside to prepare a meal for the children.
He told her that she would stay and look after the children she gave birth to.
A month after, Destiny's husband bought her a brand new car but Destiny was more scared than happy.
She had to confide in mama Obi because she believed that her husband was planning to kill her and was trying to make her comfortable first before getting rid of her.
She told mama Obi her predicament just so someone would know what really happened if she died.
Its been over fifteen years, yet aunty bonz lives happily with her old husband till date.
She had one more child and no one ever heard any other ugly story about Destiny.
That incident was a turnaround moment for aunty bonz; she never thought it was possible to forgive such an atrocity.
She shows gratitude to her husband everyday for being so magnanimous however, she says that each day she wakes up on this side of life she's grateful.
Somewhere in her head she believes that her husband will get his own pound of flesh one day.
Me: I cant think of any man who may act like Destiny's husband. To me the poor man moved on more for his sanity than for love. I'm happy aunty bonz has stayed clean for a while. Please keep at it.
The concluding speaks a lot. It was obvious that aunty bonz carried on with illicit affairs even in her marriage. But her
ReplyDeletehusband is a man that has the mind of God. No matter the level of our sin, the love and mercy of God overlooks waiting if we could come back to our sense. But that grace should not be taken for granted otherwise the sin will find her out one day and destruction follows. Of course then she will be responsible for he fate. HIV and other related terminal diseases are still there.
Wow! Thats a big sign of maturity the man displayed there.
ReplyDeleteI am happy it ended well and I pray she never goes back to such life again.
Nice one Amaks! Well done
