Her Bad Reputation

Nneora was not an average young girl, she was very smart and deep; she did not reason like an ordinary girl. While her mates wanted to party, she spent hours in the library searching for books to read.

When her mates bought trendy clothes like pedal pushers and dungarees, Nneora bought the best-selling books and spent hours in the toilet reading and laughing out loudly to herself, strange if you ask me.

All her friends talked about the boys they fancied but Nneora only fancied books, books and more books and so it wasn’t strange that she an extremely brilliant girl. She did so well in her studies and graduated from both seconday school and the University in flying colours.

When Nnneora finally decided to date, she settled for the hottest guy in town to the envy of many girls her age. Why would Etoo – every young girl’s dream settle for Nneora who paid little attention to him. It wasn’t long before the other girls were happy again; Nneora broke up with Etoo just after ten months of dating.

In three years, it was obvious that Nneora was not all that she seemed to be, she was loose and couldn’t stay with one guy. She dated Justin, Obi, Ike, Adu and also the only foreigner in town Punjab.

She broke up with each of them just after about eight months of dating. Her longest relationship was with Etoo.

Her last relationship with the foreigner  ended in a very funny way; she suddenly stopped seeing him, Punjab wouldn’t pick her calls and was never home when she visited.

A month after, it was her birthday and she had a small party at home. To Nneora's surprise, Punjab showed up with Ada, her  friend and that was how she learnt that her relationship was over with Punjab. She took it really well and played a good host to all who honoured her on her special day including the traitors.

Years later while working on a project Nneora met Dike, at first, he was always standoffish to the very friendly Nneora but when he had worked with her for a while, he began to see that Nneora was a truly lovely person.

Her brilliance shone through everything that she did on the project, she thought through every single action and always had good results.

She also made everyone take full credit for even the work that she did alone. She was just an amazing human being and so Dike started to doubt all that he heard about Nneora. They lived in the same town while growing up and went to the same extra morals lessons. He knew Nneora so well but she had no clue who he was; she was so into her books then to notice a lot of boys.

After her last relationship with Punjab Nneora went back to being by herself; she was done with guys, they were all the same and never to be trusted. She never knew who Dike was and so when he told her all that she knew about her including where she lived and all the guys she dated in the past, she was dumbfounded.

She began to keep her distance from him thereafter; she did not want anyone from her past in her life anymore. She had a new reputation that she needed to protect and did not want anyone who knew her to ruin what she had worked so hard to build after her escapades in the past.

The more she stayed away from Dike the more Dike wanted to be with her. There was something uncommon about her which endeared her to him.

Nneora laughed from the depth of her heart, she had a good word for everyone and was hardly ever upset; even when she was she had a lot of self-control and never allowed herself to be controlled by her emotions. Nneora made everyone feel important and was extremely polite; Dike knew he wanted her and would do anything to be with her.

At the end of their project, Dike applied for an extention of his contract but Nneora decided to move on to other things for obvious reasons.

She carefully avoided Dike for a whole year till their paths crossed again at a conference. She was representing her new organization while Dike was there in his own capacity. Strangely she accepted to go for a drink with him after the first day of the conference and this became their routine for the rest of the conference days.

When they got back to base, they continued to see each other and after dating for six months, Dike knew that he couldn’t lose Nneora and so one evening while driving to their favourite restaurant, right there in the car he proposed to her.

She found it awkward and laughed hysterically till Dike pulled out a ring from his pocket. He was serious afterall but since he made it so casual, her response was casual. “why not?”.

When they got to the restaurant, Nneora asked Dike to get on his knees and propose properly like in the books. Haha!

After their wedding, Nneora was ill which was obviously due to the stress of planning her wedding herself. She was a perfectionist and paid attention to every detail herself; she took ill at the wedding reception but managed to pull through the day without drama.

Two weeks after getting married Dike was yet to be intimate with his wife. He confided in his brother who also knew Nneora from way back that he was yet to touch her intimately. He made that known to him when he teased him that his wife was pregnant already.

When they were finally on their honeymoon, the new couple was overjoyed. Dike in particular couldn’t wait for “it” to happen. Men will be men..SMH.

Nneora made him agree to having a celibate relationship with her while they dated. He had had his own unfair share of women and it wasn’t a big deal to him, at first it was was difficult but when he realized that there was more to Nneora than the things between her legs he was happy to discover her every day.

On the first day of their honeymoon, when they got back to their hotel after touring the beautiful city they had chosen for their honeymoon even Dike himself was nervous. He hadn’t been with a woman that way in a long time and he even started to doubt his abilities in that area. Lol!

He kissed Nneora passionately but all of a sudden she started to shake, she was very nervous and even her voice was shaky. She had something to tell him. Dike nearly passed out when she told him that it was her first time. He screamed “your first time?!!!!” he wasn’t sure whether to be happy or not but he held her close to him and promised to always be there for her.

As Nneora moaned from both pain and pleasure, Dike made her a real woman all through the night, they could not get enough of each other. Nneora told him the real story of her life, all those guys that she dated in the past dumped her as soon as they couldn’t get what they wanted and all of them made people think that they slept with her. Her bad reputation wasn’t bad after all.

Dike apologized to her for being as blind as every other person. Their laughter filled the silent night when Nneora told him that he would carefully wrap the white bed linen that had traces of blood stain in a box and take to her parents with a live goat in appreciation to them for raising a decent daughter.

Many years after Dike and Nneora are still very much in love and raising beautiful children together. Things are not always what they seem.

Me: I love this story and wish most of our young girls will be as decent as Nneora, imagine if she had slept with all the guys that she dated. By the way, why do some men love to be the first man a lady sleeps with? Selfish men..lol!

  1. Lovely story Amaka. To answer your question, not all men are self! However, there is always a sense of pride and satisfaction of being first - whether it's being first in class during school days or first to buy the new reigning car amongst their peers or area!

For most men, being the first intimate affair in a woman's life doesn't just give him satisfaction/pride; he is sure if he did a good job that she is all his as long as he keeps up bringing his a game. Also, it elevates his love for the lady a step or two further by adding respect and trust to the relationship - especially if there have been many other men whom he knows that have tried to get in there but failed just like narrated in your story about Nneoma!

Hmmm...come to think of it, women never forget (in a good way) their first guy/time - can someone be kind enough to tell me why?
